Position Overview
The Finance/Accounting Specialist II supports TNC’s Tackle Climate Change team by providing specialized finance, accounting, and grant management services. This includes day-to-day transaction processing, private grant reporting and budgeting, system migrations, and general financial operations. The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with TNC policies and financial best practices.
This is a two-year funded position with the potential for extension, depending on performance and funding availability. Salary is determined by the employee’s location.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare financial reports for donors and management, including budget/spending analyses, budgeting, and forecasting for private grants

Manage research, cost allocation, and accounting adjustments for private award mechanisms

Support financial system migrations and create templates to support financial consistency and analysis

Process income, expenses, transfers, and monthly reports using financial systems

Prepare journal entries, expense reclasses, and cash receipts

Coordinate data submissions for audits

Oversee invoice issuance and ensure proper payment tracking and contract adherence

Conduct reviews and analyses of invoices, expenses, and transactions

Provide support to the contract team on payment schedules and reporting

Work across multiple systems and databases for financial tracking

Ensure compliance with TNC policies, financial standards, and legal requirements
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination)

Experience with financial and accounting analysis and reporting systems (e.g., Insight)

Technical experience with spreadsheets and financial tools (e.g., MS Excel, MATLAB)

Familiarity with GAAP and fund accounting principles

Experience with contract clauses and grant financial management
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in nonprofit finance and U.S. government grants management

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Experience working across cultures and in decentralized team structures

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Multilingual abilities (especially Spanish or French) are a plus

Salary Information
For U.S.-based applicants, the starting salary range is $58,820–$88,145 annually. For international candidates, compensation will be in local currency, based on regional market benchmarks and candidate qualifications.
