About the Role

Epoch AI is hiring a Senior Researcher to lead data-driven investigations into key trends in artificial intelligence. This role is central to shaping Epoch’s public-facing data insights, providing actionable research that informs AI researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders. You will work closely with the data team and external collaborators to produce rigorous analysis and communicate it clearly across various platforms.

The ideal candidate will combine advanced data analysis capabilities with a deep understanding of AI/ML trends, and the ability to communicate complex insights in accessible, actionable formats.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize trends in AI that are strategically important for stakeholders

• Conduct in-depth quantitative research and statistical analysis on AI development

• Develop clear, reliable data insights and analytical reports for diverse audiences

• Engage with external collaborators and clients to understand their strategic needs

• Improve the design, writing, and positioning of Epoch’s data insights

• Review and provide feedback on research and data insights produced by colleagues

• Optionally manage junior researchers and analysts

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

• Advanced skills in data analysis and statistical modeling (e.g., hierarchical modeling, inference with limited data)

• Strong familiarity with machine learning and recent AI developments

• Excellent written communication for both technical and general audiences

• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

• High attention to detail and commitment to analytical rigor

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data visualization

• Research background in ML/AI, with published work

• Familiarity with ML hardware or large-scale training runs

• Knowledge of Epoch AI’s work and mission

Compensation and Benefits

Salary

$150,000–$200,000 USD per year, adjusted to local currency and cost of living
