About OCI

Oil Change International is a nonprofit advancing climate justice through hard-hitting, data-driven research and people-powered campaigns. Their work exposes the true costs of fossil fuels and supports efforts to end public and financial support for the fossil fuel industry.

Role Overview

The Research Manager will play a critical role in producing strategic, high-impact research that supports OCI’s campaigns and movement partners globally. Reporting to the Research Co-Director, this role will coordinate across all program areas and ensure research outputs are timely, accurate, campaign-aligned, and accessible to target audiences. This includes managing project workflows, strengthening internal research systems, contributing directly to research, and guiding communications strategies tied to research findings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate research projects that serve OCI’s campaign strategies across regions including the US, Global South, and multilateral finance spaces

  • Collaborate with campaigners and program staff to develop research priorities, collect and analyze data, and publish reports and tools tailored for advocacy

  • Manage and improve internal research systems, tools, processes, and peer review structures

  • Provide quality control and editorial guidance to ensure research accuracy, clarity, and impact

  • Train and support staff and consultants in research tools and methodologies

  • Partner with the Communications Team to turn data into engaging visuals, toolkits, and messages for media, social platforms, and partners

  • Monitor and assess the impact of research outputs and recommend improvements

  • Ensure research outputs reflect OCI’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and climate justice

Key Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience producing advocacy-oriented research in climate, energy, or social/environmental justice fields

  • 3+ years in a senior research or strategy role, including project management and cross-team collaboration

  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, including fluency with tools like Excel or Google Sheets

  • Proven ability to produce clear, persuasive written materials and reports for advocacy

  • Deep familiarity with climate and energy policy, particularly fossil fuel supply issues

  • Demonstrated experience integrating research into campaign goals and messaging

  • Sensitivity to race, class, and power dynamics, with a commitment to justice and inclusion

  • Experience managing teams or consultants and balancing multiple priorities

  • Strong English writing skills; Spanish or French proficiency is a plus

  • Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to pivot quickly in response to emerging needs

  • Familiarity with coalition work and existing connections in the climate justice movement preferred

What They’re Looking For

OCI seeks a collaborative, strategic thinker who brings both technical research acumen and a deep commitment to movement building and climate justice. You should be comfortable supporting others, managing complexity, and helping translate research into action. A passion for dismantling systems that support fossil fuels and a drive to build equitable alternatives are key.

Additional Details

  • Expected travel: ~2 weeks/year (more optional)

  • Supportive of flexible work schedules

  • OCI is an equal opportunity employer, committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its work

  • Reasonable accommodations will be made for applicants with disabilities
