Epoch AI is a research institute dedicated to analyzing the development and societal impact of artificial intelligence. Their mission is to build a publicly accessible knowledge base that informs global decision-makers, including policymakers and industry leaders. About the Role

Epoch AI is hiring a Head of Web Development to oversee its full technology infrastructure and manage a small team of engineers. This leadership role will guide both the technical strategy and hands-on development of the organization’s web platforms and ensure their systems are scalable, high-performing, and aligned with Epoch’s communication and publication goals.

This position has emerged from the division of a broader CTO role into two distinct positions, allowing for a more focused and impactful contribution to the team’s growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 3–5 engineers

• Develop and communicate a long-term technical strategy that aligns with organizational goals

• Oversee the full tech stack and infrastructure, including their public-facing website

• Provide mentorship and performance development for engineering team members

• Set team priorities and support clean, scalable execution

• Guide implementation of interactive data visualizations and tools to streamline research publication

• Collaborate with leadership, researchers, designers, and stakeholders on roadmap planning

• Occasionally contribute to the codebase and perform code reviews

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience in full-stack software development

• Proficiency in TypeScript

• Prior management or team leadership in a technical role

• Strong understanding of web infrastructure and scalable system design

• Strategic thinker with strong execution skills

• Mission alignment with Epoch AI’s vision and goals

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python

• Familiarity with data visualization tools

• Comfort working with global, remote teams

• Flexibility with scheduling to support occasional coordination across time zones

Salary

$150,000–$250,000 USD annually, adjusted for location and currency
