Position Overview
FAR.AI is hiring a Head of Communications to lead and expand its communications strategy, ensuring the organization’s voice reaches key stakeholders in government, industry, and academia. This person will direct all communications efforts, shape messaging, oversee content creation, manage media relations, and lead a growing team. The role includes a significant strategic and hands-on component, managing a ~$1M annual budget.

Type: Full-time (40 hours/week), hybrid or remote with preference for Pacific Time alignment.

Location: Berkeley, CA preferred, but remote candidates considered.

Compensation: $140,000–$200,000 base salary, with additional benefits (e.g., catered meals, travel, equipment, PTO).

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership

Design and execute a comprehensive communications strategy targeting policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders.

Own the content pipeline, messaging alignment, and cross-channel narrative strategy.

Coordinate closely with internal teams to integrate research into public-facing content.
Media & Public Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with high-impact journalists and media outlets.

Lead proactive media outreach and rapid-response communications.

Ensure consistent, accurate public messaging on AI safety.
Team Management

Manage and expand the communications team.

Oversee third-party partnerships (e.g., PR and social agencies).

Guide execution of social media and policy communication campaigns.
Content & Stakeholder Engagement

Translate complex research into accessible summaries and visuals.

Run social media strategy and campaigns.

Represent FAR.AI in external forums, and build strategic alliances within the AI safety space.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications

8+ years of communications leadership experience in policy, science, or technical fields.

Proven success leading initiatives end-to-end and managing cross-functional teams.

Strong media relations skills and experience securing major placements.

Clear interest in AI safety and capacity to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences.

Strong judgment, multitasking abilities, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Background in entrepreneurship, political communications, or advocacy.

Experience leading teams and launching initiatives in early-stage organizations.

Familiarity with AI policy and existing relationships in the tech media space.
