About CECG

The Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG) is a global philanthropic initiative supported by major climate funders and fiscally hosted by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. CECG focuses on enhancing multilateral cooperation in international climate spaces like the UNFCCC COPs and drives inclusive, systemic climate action. Its global team of ~25 staff and consultants works remotely to shape strategies that empower climate actors and unlock high-impact outcomes.

Role Overview

The Chief Programme Officer (CPO) will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for CECG’s global programme portfolio. This newly created senior position will lead programme design, innovation, monitoring and evaluation, and grantmaking. The CPO will report to the Executive Director and engage with the Advisory Board, donors, and partners to align programme work with CECG’s bold mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic direction and execution of CECG’s global programme strategy

  • Design, oversee, and continuously improve programme portfolio and cross-thematic integration

  • Ensure strong monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) practices across programmes

  • Oversee design and implementation of equitable, transparent grantmaking systems

  • Manage approximately 25 global staff and consultants, including Programme Directors and MEL Director

  • Support fundraising aligned with programme goals and emerging opportunities

  • Ensure financial oversight, compliance, budgeting, and risk management

  • Represent CECG in strategic forums and foster partnerships with funders, multilateral actors, and grantees

  • Collaborate across departments to align programme objectives with operations, finance, and communications

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re seeking a strategic and collaborative leader with experience delivering complex international programmes in the climate or development sector. You should be values-driven, adaptive, and capable of leading globally dispersed teams.

Key Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years in senior management roles, including oversight of multidisciplinary global teams

  • At least 10 years working in the international climate sector

  • Minimum 7 years in public policy, advocacy, or regulatory affairs

  • At least 5 years in philanthropy, including grant design and management

  • 5+ years of experience leading or integrating MEL frameworks

  • Experience engaging in multilateral spaces (e.g. UN, COP, global coalitions)

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in climate change, public policy, environmental studies, economics, political science, international development, or related fields
